An extraordinary group of characters intermingle with dramatic effect over the course of a morning and beyond in the sleepy country village of Borrington.
Murder is planned at Marcquot Manor. Hostages are taken at the village school and at the local Leisure Centre, where Major Mason is prepared to use Matilda if he has to. Meanwhile, Fat Cheryl and family are on their way to the village with a deadline to meet and a family dispute to resolve and the Mad As A Twatter Northern Bastard, having escaped from Brightmoor, searches for a ferret and anyone who might be interested in sitting on his face.
For Sergeant Lionel Brooksbank and his police colleagues, it's certainly a bothersome morning in Borrington as murder, madness and mayhem ensue.
Village People is a fast-paced, joyous romp which skates deliciously near the edge. It is sometimes bawdy, often irreverent but manages to hold on to a familiarity which works to both engage and challenge.
